The symptoms of mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that arises in mésotheliales cells of different organs, usually in the lungs and less frequently in the heart and abdominal cavity. Symptoms that may arise are essentially based on the development of mesothelioma cancer site. Since cancer cells grow of the lining of organs in the tissues of organs, the function of this organ is affected first. In the final stages of the disease, the symptoms are more generalised that the disease spreads to various parts of the body (metastasize).

Pleural mesothelioma

The pleura to refer to the cell wall of the lungs. In simple terms, the pleura is a bag that protects the lungs from external shocks and friction with other bodies. It also secretes a vital fluid that lubricates the movements of lung prevention of damage to the surface of the lung. Pleural mesothelioma is the development of cancer cells in the pleura. When pleural mesothelioma begins, a series of small white nodules appear on the surface of the pleura. They unite to form a crust that compresses the lungs. It extends also to outside in chest wall and the coast.

However, the first symptoms of the disease are not serious enough to cause alarm that delays diagnosis, resulting in aggravating circumstances. Inflammation of the lungs by the presence of cancer and their causative agents (e.g., asbestos fibers) cells lead to an increase of the production of fluid in the pleura. This is known as pleural effusion. An excess of fluid in the lungs of symptoms result such as:

* Cough
* A wheezing
* Shortness of breath
* Hoarseness

There is perhaps also of chest pain due to the increase of pressure on the diaphragm and lungs of a pleural effusion and constriction of the tissues by cancer cells.
Peritoneal Mesothelioma

The presence of cancer cells in the peritoneum (the lining around the abdomen and stomach) can have different consequences depending on the location of the tumor. The most common symptoms are:

* Unexplained weight loss
* Fever
* An increase in abdominal girth
* A distension of the abdomen
* The presence of fluid in the abdomen
* Fever
* Weight loss
* Loss of appetite
* Anemia
* Fatigue
* A bowel obstruction

In the final stages of the disease, Blood platelet count increases significantly resulting in a greater blood coagulation.

Pericardial mesothelioma

With the development of cancer in the pericardium (the cell lining around the heart), the symptoms are very similar to other cardiac disorders, making it difficult to diagnose pericardial mesothelioma. Most of the symptoms occur due to an accumulation of fluid in the pericardium leading to:

* Palpitations
* Chest pain
* The murmurs
* Cough
* Difficulty breathing

As can be seen in the three cases of mesothelioma, the symptoms are very non-specific. In other words, the disease is not a symptom of his own. Most of the symptoms can be mistaken for symptoms of other diseases (including some relatively common diseases such as influenza in the case of mesothelioma pleural). Diagnosis of mesothelioma is fairly difficult.
